Heads of Drama Convention
Oslo, October 2005

MediaXchange made news in 2005 with the first annual Heads of Drama Convention in Oslo.

“It was a pleasure to be in Oslo for the Heads of Drama Convention. I enjoyed being on the panel as much as listening to other sessions, but most of all, I feel I benefited from meeting a lot of interesting people.”

Daniela Matei, Vice President Production,
SBS Broadcasting, Holland

We brought Europe's most influential drama producers together with their U.S. counterparts for a groundbreaking three-day convention hosted by Norway's broadcaster, NRK.

Delegates from the UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Italy, and Romania came together for three days of investigation and inspiration.  The demand was so great for such contact, plans were laid for a second Convention in Oslo in 2006.

Meet the Brits II
London, November 2005

“It was just great to take part in Meet the Brits, and I felt you really got the most interesting and inspiring people together. I now feel really very well informed about the British Market, and it put into perspective for me, the kind of problems and challenges we will face in the future here in Germany. You did a fantastic job organising this so well, I felt very home and enjoyed very much the group of delegates I was part of. Thank you, I appreciated it so much.”

Tim Gehrke, Executive Producer,
Phoenix Films, Germany

Meet the Brits II in November gathered a strong group of twelve European producers to meet the broadcasters and production companies making the running in the conception, development and production of UK’s television drama successes.

The strength of the response to the Meet the Brits strand this year has spawned a new version in the Spring addressing the UK’s innovative Entertainment programming sector.

TV Drama Exchange
March 2005

In March 2005, delegates from the UK’s BBC and leading indie Mersey Television, Germany’s RTL, and Scandinavia’s Metronome and MTV OY traveled to Los Angeles for our TV Drama Exchange.

“MediaXchange offers writers and producers a unique opportunity to view what the folks across the Atlantic are doing in television and movies. I was amazed to see the sophisticated use of computer graphics to design intricate stunts for a German television show, and I was inspired to push my show a little further by using their approach. In turn, they were fascinated by our storytelling techniques and learned how we organize our day to be able to make 24 one-hour episodes in a season.”

Neal Baer, Executive Producer,
Law & Order: SVU, US

During the full week of meetings with industry professionals, the group discussed the direction that drama programming is taking in the US, and how emerging trends will affect the global marketplace.

Our TV Drama Exchange delegates had the opportunity to meet with executives and producers from 24, 25 C Productions, Brainstorm Communications Inc, CBS, Creative Artists Agency, FX Network, Grammnet Productions, HBO, Innovative Artists, Lifetime Television, NBC, Paramount Network Television, Reveille LLC, Sander/Moses Productions, Showtime Network, Spelling Television, Twentieth Century Fox Television, USA Networks, Without a Trace, and Zetools, Inc.

Showrunner Entertainment Programme
January 2005

In January 2005, delegates from Norway’s TV2, Metronome, and Nordisk Film, as well as from Scotland’s The Comedy Unit traveled to Los Angeles for our Showrunner Entertainment Programme.

During a week’s immersion in the world of US Entertainment shows, MediaXchange delegates had the opportunity to spend days with the Executive Producers/Showrunners of American Idol (Fox), The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS) and Caesars 24/7 (A&E), observing their production practices, and gaining insight into the creative thinking and development behind their shows.

The group also had a series of meetings with industry leaders, in which they discussed the direction that entertainment programming is taking in the US, and how emerging trends will affect the global marketplace.

The meetings even inspired the sale of an improv comedy format to one of our Norwegian delegates.  The format will be produced for the Scandinavian market.

Our thanks to the US companies with whom we met: A. Smith & Company, ABC, Bravo, Creative Artists Agency, Fox Network, Fox Reality Channel, Grammnet Productions, GSN, David E. Kelley Productions, Pie Town, Renegade 83, Reveille LLC, The Law Offices of Barbara M. Rubin, and Showtime Networks.
